Joey Ramone ‘Birthday Bash’ to return with livestream concert
The annual punkathon known as the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash is set to return for 2020 but with an entirely live-streamed performance amid COVID-19 lockdown measures.
The event will take place on May 20th and will begin at 1am BST. This year’s performance will see CJ Ramone, Richie Ramone, Blondie’s Clem Burke, Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and more.
The concert will be aired as a free to watch video on the band’s Facebook page with audience members being encouraged to donate to the Joey Ramone Foundation for Lymphoma Research.
Last year’s event saw the punks of the world descend upon New York’s iconic Bowery Electric and saw CJ Ramone again take the stage.
This year’s performance may well be livestreamed but it doesn’t lack any punch as it invites Australian musicians Dav Faulkner and Dune Rats to also be a part of this year’s event.
A post announcing the event said: “You don’t need a ticket, you don’t need a plane, train or automobile. you don’t anything more than you have right now. Just come back here on May 19th @ 8PM EST and we’ll all celebrate the birth, life, and music of Joey Ramone together!”
Joey Ramone sadly passed away on April 15th, 2001, a month before his 50th birthday. The first tribute concert was laid on that very year and has been kept going by his brother Micky Leigh, ever since.
