Joel McHale takes the blame for ‘Community’ movie delay

As Joel McHale enjoys a brief but stunning cameo in FX hit The Bear, the actor has given an update on another of his mammoth TV shows as the world waits for the Community movie.

The show, starring McHale, Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, and Alison Brie, among others, has been given cult status recently as it has found a home on streaming platforms. It meant the announcement of a feature-length movie about the community college personnel was duly welcomed.

The meta-focused sit-com often yelled out the phrase “six seasons and a movie” as the pinnacle of what the show was trying to achieve. But, with Donald Glover confirming he was “all in” on a movie, it looked as though the mantra would come true.

Despite such a clamour to see the gang back together, the movie has yet to begin shooting, despite confirmation of the plans to do so. Now, in a recent interview with GQ, McHale has revealed that he is the cause of the delays in production.

“It hasn’t been shot yet. It will be. And I don’t have a definitive update because we thought for a moment it was going to all happen this year, and then it didn’t,” he told the publication.

However, he did have an update for fans: “But we have the money, and that is a huge step. And hopefully, people still want to see it. And Peacock’s paying for it. And so I can’t wait to do it. I’ll say vaguely next year. How about that?”

Modestly, as the interviewer suggested that Glover, arguably the cast’s break-out star, was the cause for the delay, McHale quickly defended his co-star: “But we have the money, and that is a huge step. And hopefully, people still want to see it. And Peacock’s paying for it. And so I can’t wait to do it. I’ll say vaguely next year. How about that?”

“I will say, and please print this,” he pleaded, “That was definitely not true. It was not Donald’s schedule. We love Donald. You can fully blame my schedule.”
