Joe Hisaishi, the iconic composer, will celebrate 35 years of Studio Ghibli with a special orchestral show at London’s SSE Arena in Wembley.
The show, which will take place on September 19th, will see music performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus.
Hisaishi has worked with filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki on all but one of his projects and, as part of the celebration, the orchestra will perform music while a montage of films is played on the large accompanying screen.
The pianist and conductor has scored several of Studio Ghibli’s most iconic and well-loved films, including the likes of My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, The Wind Rises and more. Most notably, however, was when Hisaishi composed the music for Spirited Away, which won Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards.
Tickets for Joe Hisaishi’s Music from the Studio Ghibli Films of Hayao Miyazaki go on sale at 10am on Friday, February 28th.
