Jimmy Kimmel was pushed not to read Trump’s Oscar posts
After reading a statement from Donald Trump at the Oscars ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel stated that many of the show’s producers encouraged him not to say anything.
The quotes began with Trump criticising Kimmel as the host of the ceremony, saying on Truth Social, “Has there EVER been a Worse Host than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be”.
Trump also took various shots at the ceremony itself, thinking the show was far too politically correct, calling the entire awards show “disjointed, boring, and very unfair”.
Kimmel, who has hosted on four separate occasions, ended up responding to the former President’s critiques from the stage, remarking that it was “past his jail time” by the time that he had sent that message. Before he had gone out to respond to the criticism, the famous late-night host said that he was originally given severe pushback from the producers of the show.
Speaking on Live With Kelly and Mark, Kimmel said that he was determined to read the message live whether the producers wanted to or not, recalling, “I was like, ‘I’m reading the Trump tweet,’ and they’re like, ‘No, no, don’t read that.’ [I said:] ‘Yes I am.’”.
Kimmel would address the comments further when he returned to his own talk show, saying, “It kind of tells you all you need to know about Donald Trump … He wrote this because he was upset I didn’t mention him on the show. No one mentioned him on the show. He wasn’t getting any attention, he couldn’t stand it”.
Meanwhile, Kimmel’s comments during the show’s monologue also garnered scrutiny, talking about actor Gerard Depardieu, who has recently been accused of sexual assault.
