Jimmy Kimmel launches fundraiser for late bandleader Cleto Escobedo III

Jimmy Kimmel has officially launched two fundraisers in memory of Cleo Escobedo III. The bandleader, who has been a permanent fixture on the show since its 2003 debut, passed away on November 11th.

Escobedo died on November 11th, aged 59. He passed away while suffering cardiogenic shock. Sepsis and pneumonina also contributed to his death.

Kimmel has not tried to hide his grief. In his monologue on the November 11th episode, which aired only hours after Escobedo’s death was announced, Kimmel admitted to viewers, “We’ve been on the air for almost 23 years, and I’ve had to do some hard monologues along the way, but this one’s the hardest.”

Additionally, in an Instagram post on November 11th, Kimmel announced news of Escobedo’s death. He wrote, “To say that we are heartbroken is an understatement. Cleto and I have been inseparable since I was nine years old.”

Newly taking to social media to announce the fundraisers, Kimmel wrote, “Cleto was always kind and eager to help others. As we mourn his loss, we have started two fundraisers to celebrate his life and give back.”

The accompanying picture depicted photos of Escobedo and his family with their dog, and an image of Kimmel and his lifelong friend.

Kimmel continued, “The first is for UCLA Medical Center where he received such incredible care. Together we can help vulnerable patients and families in need of financial assistance during hard times.”

He also revealed that his second fundraiser would be for The Animal Foundation in their hometown of Las Vegas, to “honour his love of animals.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is currently taking a break in order to honour the late crew member. The show will return on November 17th. Guests such as Danny DeVito, Jason Bateman and Susanna Hoffs had been due to join him on the two episodes that have been cancelled.
