Jimmy Kimmel claims the FCC is threatening his late-night talk show again
Jimmy Kimmel has warned fans of his late-night talk show that trouble may lie on the horizon: “We are once again getting threatened by the FCC,” the host admitted in his latest monologue.
The warning comes as the Federal Communications Commission shared that Kimmel’s show, as well as others like The View, may no longer be exempt from the equal opportunities requirements instituted by Congress.
FCC chairman Brendan Carr shared the update on January 21st, which posited that the exceptions for late-night and daytime talk shows that treated interviews with politicians as “bona fide news” interviews, thereby letting them bypass the equal opportunities rule, should be treated on a case-by-case basis.
Carr added that exceptions should not be granted to shows “motivated by purely partisan political purposes.”
As Kimmel explained, the FCC is “planning to make it difficult for shows like ours and The View to interview politicians they don’t align with.”
This comes after Carr publicly targeted Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which was subsequently removed from air for almost a week after Kimmel’s comments surrounding the assassination of Charlie Kirk caused great upset to the FCC.
However, Kimmel still shared the news with a smile on his face. He told the live audience that he had found a guest who would help him adhere to the new rules. Though President Donald Trump’s head “was unavailable to talk,” Kimmel found another appendage: Trump’s “badly bruised right hand.”
The hand, which has been central to discourse making fun of the aging President, spoke on the show: “Hello, America,” it said. “It‘s me in the flesh. The rotting, diseased flesh.”
Recently, Kimmel addressed Trump specifically in one of his monologues, offering to give Trump his Emmy should he successfully remove ICE from Minneapolis. Kimmel’s comments were inspired by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who gifted Trump her Nobel Peace Prize in a political move to curry favour with the president.
