Jimmy Kimmel brands Donald Trump’s Iran attacks as “Operation Epsteino Distracto”
Jimmy Kimmel has slammed Donald Trump for the US government attacks on Iran, branding it “Operation Epsteino Distracto”.
The talk show host made the comments on March 2nd as part of the opening monologue to his show, the first back on air since the US and Israel began a wave of attacks in Iran on February 28th, which have now spread across the Middle East.
Kimmel told his audience: “When we left you last week on Thursday night, we were not at war. And today we are at war. I used to say the one thing that surprised me about Donald Trump, in a good way, is that he hadn’t gotten us into any wars. Now there’s nothing good about him. It’s zero.”
The host has been a prominent longtime critic of the US president, most infamously being pulled from the air for four days last year over his comments about Trump’s response to the death of Charlie Kirk.
His criticism of the Iran attacks and Trump’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein are the latest in a line of controversies that Kimmel has taken aim at the president over, as he added: “Early Saturday morning, just after midnight. The Pentagon launched what they are calling ‘Operation Epic Fury’, which is different from its original title, which was Operation Epsteino Distracto.”
Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to his former ties to the paedophile financier Epstein, previously telling BBC News he has “been exonerated”.
Kimmel said in his monologue: “When your best friend was a paedophile and you’re losing bigly in the swing states with an election coming up, what do you do? I’ll tell you what you do. You fire the weapons of mass distraction.”
The president has been roundly criticised across the cultural sphere for instigating war with Iran, with former South Park writer Toby Morton launching a campaign to enlist Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, to fight in the US military.
The tagline for the satirical website DraftBarronTrump.com reads: “America is strong because its leaders are strong. President Trump proves that every day. Naturally, his son Barron is more than ready to defend the country his father so boldly commands. Service is honor. Strength is inherited.”
