Jim Carrey in discussions to play villain role in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film

Jim Carrey is in final talks to join the forthcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

It is believed Carrey is in discussions with Paramount Pictures production to play the villain role of Robotnik, a well-known character in the Sega video game.

James Marsden and Tika Sumpter have already been confirmed for roles in the film which is directed by Jeff Fowler while Neal Moritz, Mie Onishi and Tim Miller are named as producers. The duties of writing the script were handed over to Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

Fowler, who received an Oscar nomination for his animated short ‘Gopher Broke’, is tasked with blending live-action and CG elements in the film which will see Sonic attempt to stop the evil Dr. Eggman from completing his plans for world domination.

The film is set for release next year.
