Jennifer Aniston condemns JD Vance over “childless cat lady” remark

Friends star Jennifer Aniston has condemned Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, for historic comments he made on childless women.

On July 15th, Trump announced Vance would be his Vice President if he’s successful in his bid for election later this year. Since he became Trump’s running mate, Vance’s profile has been significantly enhanced, and several controversial past comments made by the politician have surfaced on social media.

In one clip, which is from a Fox News interview in 2021, Vance spoke derogatorily about female politicians in America, claiming they are frustrated by not having children, and use politics as a tool to bring others down.

He said during the broadcast: “We’re effectively run in this country by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”

Vance continued: “Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. How does it make any sense we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

Since President Biden pulled out of the electoral race, Vice President Kamala Harris has become the favourite to replace him, and Republicans have begun politicising her decision not to have children, which has led to Vance’s comments resurfacing.

Now, Jennifer Aniston, who also doesn’t have children, has criticised Vance for the remark and expressed her fears about him potentially becoming Vice President following the election in November.

Despite Aniston’s desire to have children and attempts at IVF, pregnancy never materialised, which is why she’s using her platform to speak for those also in her position.

Aniston shared the clip of Vince on Instagram and fearfully wrote: “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States.”

The Hollywood star also expressed her worries for Vance’s daughter, adding, “All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”

In 2022, during an interview with Allure, Aniston admitted that “the ship had sailed” for having children, and admitted, “I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favour.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today.”

Earlier this year, IVF treatment has been under heavy scrutiny in Alabama following a ruling made by the Alabama Supreme Court, which has potentially jeopardised the future of the treatment in the state.

In the wake of the news, Trump revealed that he’s fully supportive of the treatment, and isn’t considering a ban, writing on Truth Social, “Under my leadership, the Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, thriving, healthy American families. We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder!”

However, last month, Vance, voted to block regulation by the Democratic Party which would have guaranteed nationwide access to IVF treatment for women.
