
Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd star in trailer for A24’s ‘Death of a Unicorn’
A24 has unveiled the first trailer for their upcoming movie, Death of a Unicorn, which stars Paul Rudd opposite Ortega.
The synopsis for the black comedy reads: “A father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”
While, as the trailer shows, they accidentally kill a unicorn during their travels, which takes their weekend getaway on an unwanted de-tour as they later discover that it contains the cure for cancer. However, while this should be cause for celebration, a dark twist takes place, which places the duo in jeopardy.
Death of a Unicorn is set for release next year. The supporting cast includes Richard E Grant, who plays Rudd’s billionaire boss. Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes also appear in the movie.
The project marks Alex Scharfman’s directorial debut. He has also written the movie. Ari Aster served as executive producer alongside Rudd and Ortega. Meanwhile, John Carpenter composed the score for Death of a Unicorn with his son, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies.
Shotting began for Death of a Unicorn in July 2023 in Hungary. Although Hollywood productions came to a standstill around this time due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, they secured a waiver which allowed filming to continue.
At this stage, no official release date has been given for Death of a Unicorn, but it is currently expected to arrive in cinemas in Spring 2025.
