Jay-Z files amended lawsuit against rape accuser and makes Wikipedia claim
Jay-Z has amended the defamation lawsuit against Jane Doe who accused the rapper of rape before voluntarily dismissing the case.
Doe claimed Shawn Carter, also known as Jay-Z, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sexually assaulted her at the MTV Video Music Awards afterparty when she was 13 years old in 2001, but later dropped the case. In response, Carter filed a defamation lawsuit against Doe’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, and four months later, sued the accuser directly in March.
The latest filing alleges the accuser “has not stopped” making statements about the case despite voluntarily dismissing the lawsuit in February. They claim that last month she posted a lip-sync video on TikTok that said, “You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to get an apology video out of me, I stand on what I said, fuck you.”
Carter’s amended complaint, obtained by Rolling Stone, claims: “By refusing to apologize, and continuing to ‘stand on what [she] said,’ despite all the evidence and, indeed, her own admissions to the contrary, Doe continues to display a shocking and reckless disregard for the truth that is both intentional and malicious, Doe never had any reasonable grounds to support any truth in her statements and acted with reckless disregard for the truth.”
In the amended lawsuit, Carter also alleges that he lost out on a “minimum fee guarantee” of $20 million due to the accusation on a deal and was “denied a $55 million personal credit line”. Roc Nation, which Carter owns 50 per cent, were denied a $115 million loan, according to the new filing.
It also alleges: “Buzbee directed his employees to edit Wikipedia pages to enhance Buzbee’s image and damage Mr. Carter’s and Roc Nation’s reputations.”
Buzbee responded to this accusation by telling Rolling Stone of the Wikipedia claim: “That’s a first for me and is incredibly weak.”
On May 5th, Carter’s lawyers were asked by a Los Angeles County judge to submit an audio recording of a conversation outside Doe’s Alabama home in February, in which she allegedly admits Carter didn’t engage in any sexual acts with her. The next hearing is scheduled to take place in California on June 12th.
