It’s a partnership you can envisage without even needing to see pen to paper, two of Hollywood’s most towering giants, Jason Mamoa and Dave Bautista are set to make a ‘buddy cop’ film together.
Quizzed on the topic during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jason Mamoa was asked about a recent tweet from Bautista that suggested the two of them should star in a “Lethal Weapon type” buddy cop movie. Momoa’s response was promising for fans, stating, “I’m not even gonna lie to you… I’m not on Twitter, but he literally texted me about four days ago, going ‘We need to do a buddy cop film’”.
Continuing, the Aquaman and Game of Thrones actor noted, “We love each other – we met on [the series] See, we’re [in] Dune together, and so I said, ‘Absolutely.’ And he said, ‘Let’s do it in Hawaii.’ I’m like, do it, [I’ve] got an idea. So it’s off to the races now, we’re doing it”. Despite Dave Bautista suggesting Deadpool’s David Leitch helm the project in his original tweet, there has been no confirmation thus far from the filmmaker.
A collaboration between the two actors would likely represent the best on-screen action duo since Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham teamed up for Hobbs and Shaw in 2019. Both Momoa and Bautista are set to star opposite each other in the second season of Apple TV’s See due for release August 27th, whilst they are also starring in the highly anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve.
With an impressive ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Dave Bautista and Oscar Issac, Denis Villeneuve’s take on the classic novel will be 2021s paramount cinematic spectacle. This film may well be steeped in sub-plot and clever writing but Villeneuve’s version of the film will be a blockbuster. Huge battle scenes coupled with giant monsters and stunning landscapes means this film will be a treat for all, sci-fi fan or not.
