As Martin Scorsese continues to assemble his simply stellar cast for the forthcoming epic western murder mystery, Killers Of The Flower Moon, the star auteur director completed two of his strangest signings to date, the country musicians Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.
Deadline reports that Isbell will play Bill Smith, an adversary of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Ernest Burkhart, while Sturgill will play bootlegger, Henry Grammer. The duo joins DiCaprio in an existing cast of Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal and more.
The role represents one hell of an acting debut for Isbell, however, his co-star Simpson already has a few silver-screen moments under his belt in The Dead Don’t Die and a handful of others. With the level of pedigree involved in the project, the inexperienced stars are in very good hands indeed.
Martin Scorsese’s big-budget western Killers of the Flower Moon is due to go into production in May after script alterations led to last-minute casting changes.
Jesse Plemons, who has previously worked with Scorsese on The Irishman, is now set for the lead role in the film for which Leonardo DiCaprio was previously in place for. This news comes following reports of a drastic script overhaul which saw Paramount sell the picture to Apple as the revised screenplay apparently made the project “less commercial”.
Interestingly, this switch came only days after Martin Scorsese published an essay besmirching the increasing commercialisation of cinema on streaming platforms.
