Jane’s Addiction and Perry Farrell reach settlement over onstage fight

Perry Farrell and Jane’s Addiction have reached a settlement in their lawsuit over an onstage fight that led to the band’s hiatus.

In September 2024, Farrell instigated a fight with guitarist Dave Navarro during a Boston show. The performance then ended prematurely, and the rest of the tour was cancelled.

Consequently, the other members of the band filed a $10million lawsuit against Farrell for “assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.”

Farrell responded with a legal filing that denied “each and every allegation”. However, it has been announced that Farrell’s bandmates, Avarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins, settled the lawsuit.

As of December 22nd, the case has been dismissed by the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. All parties involved have yet to publicly comment on this update.

This announcement comes approximately one week after Farrell issued an apology for the incident, which stated that he had “reflected” on what had happened, before adding, “I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”

Farrell apologised in the immediate aftermath of the incident, sharing, “Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

The band also posted their own statement, which said, in part, that after the Boston show, “Without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret.”

The statement also announced that Jane’s Addiction has now split up: “We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together.”

Farrell has since returned to the stage in November 2025 for The Doors’ 60th anniversary show, which marked his first live performance since the incident.
