During the week which would mark the 29th anniversary of his death, Jane Birkin and Iggy Pop provided a fitting tribute to Serge Gainsbourg on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night.
The iconic singer, Birkin was joined on stage by none other than the forefather of punk, Iggy Pop as the pair dueted on one of Gainsbourg’s most cherished tracks.
The song in question, ‘Elisa’ was taken from the 1969 album Jane Birkin et Serge Gainsbourg, was beautifully performed in tribute to the alt-pop French singer.
As well as being joined by Iggy Pop, the duo was also amply backed by Questlove on drums to guarantee a harmonious performance.
The performance comes just a few days before Birkin takes her symphonic show Songs of Serge Gainsbourg to New York’s Beacon Theatre this weekend.
