Jamie Lee Curtis brought close to tears over Charlie Kirk’s death: “He’s a father and a husband”
Jamie Lee Curtis was brought close to tears over the murder of American political activist Charlie Kirk, saying, “He’s a father and a husband.”
The actor was speaking during an interview on the WTF podcast hosted by Marc Maron, which was recorded in the days following the conservative commentator and Turning Point founder’s assassination at a Utah college on September 10th.
Curtis said she wanted to discuss the topic as “it’s front of mind”, but then mistakenly called Kirk “Charlie Crist”, which was due to his “deep, deep belief” in the Christian faith, she reasoned.
However, she went on to explain through tears: “I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died, that he felt connected with his faith.”
The actor, who most recently starred in Freakier Friday, the sequel to the Disney classic, added that “even though his ideas were abhorrent to me,” she viewed Kirk as “a father and a husband and a man of faith,” before noting, “And I hope whatever connection to God means that he felt it.”
Curtis then went on to deplore the videos circulating on social media which graphically depict the moment in which Kirk was fatally shot, comparing it to video footage of 9/11, the anniversary of which was observed the day after his death.
“We don’t know enough psychologically about what that does,” she said. “What does that do? That kind of — I don’t ever want to see this footage of this man being shot.”
Curtis added: “Today, we as a society are bombarded with imagery,” before going on to issue a warning about the “longitudinal effects” of such harmful content being rapidly circulated online.
