Jamie Hewlett and Paul Smith join War Child ‘Secret 7″’ vinyl project
Gorillaz’s graphic artist Jamie Hewlett, fashion designer Paul Smith and Radiohead collaborator Stanley Donwood are among the designers attached to this year’s War Child Secret 7″ vinyl series.
Meanwhile, the charity movement is scheduled to feature songs by Paul McCartney, Aurora, The Chemical Brothers and more. The Secret 7” collection includes songs by seven musicians in total across just 700 copies, each featuring a unique artwork.
Celeste, Hozier, Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Specials will also appear in the collection, with all copies set to be exhibited for free admission at NOW Gallery from March 2nd to 17th, 2024.
A collaboration of 700 artists, designers, and creatives has resulted in 700 unique seven-inch records. The innovative initiative, which previously ran from 2012-21, includes seven tracks by seven different musicians, which are then pressed into seven-inch vinyl 100 times.
The album covers for each record have been designed by the participating creatives, including renowned figures such as Tacita Dean, Paul Smith, Rankin, Cho Hui-Chin, Jamie Hewlett, Ragnar Kjartansson, and many others.
Following the exhibition, all the unique sleeves will be made available through an auction, offering art enthusiasts and collectors the opportunity to acquire these unique pieces.
Other notable contributors include the frequent Radiohead collaborator Stanley Donwood, Bob and Roberta Smith, Helen Beard, Sue Webster, Tom Dixon, Morag Myerscough, Antony Burrill and more.
All proceeds from the auction will be donated to support War Child’s work with children affected by conflict.
