James Gunn confirmed to write and direct another ‘Superman’ movie for DC

James Gunn is set to continue capitalising on the success of Superman by writing and directing DC Studios’ follow-up to the hit film.

According to Variety, the CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, David Zaslav announced during the company’s earnings call that Gunn was again set to take the helm on the studio’s “next instalment in the Super-Family,” although it is not clear whether this is related to Superman itself.

While promoting the latest film, which was released on July 11th, Gunn confirmed that he was in the process of writing another film starring David Corenswet as the titular hero. It is not yet known if this is the same project as that which has just been revealed.

However, it makes sense for the studio to return to its co-lead to helm its next major project in the franchise, given the mammoth box office success that Superman has amassed since its release. Significantly, the film has grossed $550 million worldwide.

Having become one of the most successful films of the year and dismissed fears of “superhero fatigue” among audiences, expectations are naturally now high for the movies that DC Studios have in the pipeline, which next include Peacemaker series two and Supergirl.

In addition, the film Clayface, which is set to shoot later this year before a slated release in 2026, will present a different stylistic direction, according to Gunn.

He said in a previous interview: “‘Clayface’ is a totally different thing. Although it’s in the same universe, it’s a complete horror film, and that’s one of the things we want to do.”

Details on the title, plot, and casting for the newly announced Gunn movie are yet to be revealed.
