James Franco admits he went “a little crazy for a while”

While looking back at his career, actor James Franco has admitted that he “was a little crazy for a while”.

Speaking at Torino Film Festival upon receiving the Stella della Mole award, Franco opened up about his unhealthy workload. He said, as per Variety, “Let’s just say I was a little crazy for a while.”

He added, “I love movies so much, and there were so many stories I wanted to tell. I went back to film school to learn how to direct [and realised]: ‘I’m no longer the person who has to wait for them to call me to be in their movie. I can make my own films!’ This started a whole other chapter.”

Franco then admitted that he is working on agreeing to a healthier workload, but that he is not immune to that dangerous, addictive characteristic. He added, “I still have that: that obsession.”

The Spring Breakers actor elaborated, “Let’s call it that, because I’m the kind of person who can become really obsessive. But I’ve also learnt it’s good to have balance. I had to learn its importance.”

Recently, Franco’s brother and fellow actor, Dave, made a rare comment about his brother, who has been surrounded by controversy as of late. In a recent interview, the younger Franco asserted that “no one was going to hire me just because I was James Franco’s little brother.”

Within the same speech, Franco also revealed that his iconic role in Danny Boyle’s action-thriller movie, 127 Hours, was almost a no-go.

He admitted, “Danny wanted to make it but nobody else on his team did. Everyone said it would be a disaster.” In the film, he stars as Aron Ralston, who became trapped by a boulder in a Utah canyon and was forced to amputate his own arm to escape the horrifying predicament.

Despite recent controversy, which saw the actor agree to a $2.2 million settlement in a sexual misconduct suit, James has several projects coming up. He has recently directed The Long Home and will star in Vincent Gallo’s Golden State Killer.
