James Blake has taken to social media to deliver a live Instagram concert at a time when millions of music fans have been forced to stay home as part of the strict social distancing measures enforced amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As part of his online show, the multi-instrumentalist covered the likes of Billie Eilish song ‘When The Party’s Over’, offered a glorious rendition of Radiohead’s ‘No Surprises’ and Joni Mitchell’s ‘A Case Of You’ as well as performing some of his own material.
The 31-year-old is the latest in a string of musicians to provide their fans with light relief in these difficult times by offering a short period of escapism with a virtual concert amid the coronavirus outbreak—a situation that is leaving huge portions of the world inside for the foreseeable future.
The ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease was first officially identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei in China. As of March 24th, more than 382,972 cases of COVID-19 have been officially confirmed but the actual number is thought to be much higher due to substantial under-reporting of cases.
With more than 16,585 people having died from the virus, COVID-19 has now spread into more than 180 other countries—including mainland Europe, South America and North America. Given the exponential growth in cases in countries like Italy and Spain, the WHO have now stated that Europe was the current centre of the pandemic.
Blake performed the set from the front room of the Los Angeles home which he shares with his partner Jameela Jamil and the whole show was joyous, check out clips from the stream below.
