James announce first-ever authorised documentary, ‘Getting Away With It’
James have announced the release of their first-ever authorised documentary, officially titled Getting Away With It.
The announcement shared that the film is slated for release in 2026. Full details will be revealed early next year: for now, the enduring band have shared a short teaser trailer with fans.
A previous project filmed and released in 2002 and titled Getting Away with It… Live saw James perform what they believed, at the time, was to be their last performance. It took place at the then-named M. E. N. Arena in Manchester, and saw the band race through 20 tracks and an encore that ended with ‘Sit Down’.
Frontman Tim Booth revealed exclusively to Far Out the reason behind the new documentary, which was tied into the release of their career-spanning new compilation, Nothing But Love: The Definitive Best Of.
When asked why he wanted to release the new collection of songs, Booth surprisingly revealed, “I didn’t.” He then explained why he reluctantly agreed to it, sharing, “We’ve been making a documentary, and to get the money for the documentary, the deal was that we would release another archival look at the greatest hits.”
Booth elaborated on the forthcoming film, “That needed a lot of money to fund, and this great documentary maker’s been making it, and we’re nearly finished. So, it was part of the deal that came with the documentary. At some point, we would have done something like this because of the new songs, but it wasn’t on my hit list. I’m always looking forward.”
During the tell-all interview, Booth also shared political commentary, stating, “All our governments are exploiting us. They do not represent the people. They exploit the very people they are meant to represent, and the way they do that is by keeping us divided.”
James are also building up to their biggest ever arena tour in 2026, titled ‘Love Is The Answer Tour’. It will culminate in a huge homecoming show at the 20,000-capacity Co-op Live in Manchester.
