Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the finest Hollywood actors in recent years, with influence in both the mainstream and independent film circuits, starring in such films as Spider-Man: Far from Home as well as the artistic 2016 drama Nocturnal Animals.
The actor also has a sharp sense of humour, illustrated when he trolled a Spider-Man: Far From Home cosplayer in Venice, after seeing the fan dressed as Quentin Beck/Mysterio, Gyllenhaal’s character from the 2019 superhero film.
“Ran into an old friend in Venezia,” Gyllenhaal wrote on Instagram alongside an image of him on a gondola with the fan in the background, whilst the second image shows the actor walking behind the fan unannounced.
The latest addition to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series is scheduled to come out later this year. Titled Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film chronicles the disastrous consequences that take place when Spider-Man seeks the help of Doctor Strange to access an alternate reality where his secret identity hasn’t been revealed to the world yet.
In an interview, director Jon Watts said: “I’ve been in a fortunate place where everyone seems to be on board with the ideas that I want to do. I’ve never really felt a ton of push-back, but it’s such a great creative team to be working with. You do kind of feel like you can do anything, and you never really feel those kinds of limitations. As long as it’s cool, you’ll get the support you need.
Continuing, Watts added, “I feel like we’re just setting the table. I don’t want to limit the things that we can do, but it is nice to just be building out this world and knowing these characters are out there, even if they’re not immediately going to come back, we know that we’re there, and we know that if we ever need to or want to, all options are on the table”.
