Live from London: Jack Whitehall and Jorja Smith set for ‘Saturday Night Live UK’

Saturday Night Live UK have confirmed Jack Whitehall and Jorja Smith for episode four of the first series.

The episode, set to be broadcast on April 11th on Sky One, will see stand-up comedian and actor Whitehall serve as guest host, while Mercury Prize-nominated Smith will be the musical guest.

Taking to X, Whitehall wrote of his upcoming involvement, “So excited to be hosting the fourth episode of SNL UK. Have loved the first shows. The cast and writers have done such an excellent job!”

The latest announcement comes after Jamie Dornan hosted the second episode of the first series on March 29th with Wolf Alice as the musical guest. They both had big boots to fill following Tina Fey and Wet Leg appearing on the first episode.

Meanwhile, Riz Ahmed, whose new series Bait recently arrived on Prime Video, joins Saturday Night Live UK as guest host this weekend. He’ll be joined by Kasabian.

While Saturday Night Live UK was initially commissioned for six episodes, the first series has since been extended to eight episodes.

Although the viewership was down by nine per cent from the first episode, the ‘Cold Open’ alone, involving a parody of Prince Andrew, has already amassed almost two million views on YouTube.

In a recent exclusive interview with Far Out, Saturday Night Live UK cast member Hammed Animashaun reflected upon the first episode, saying of working alongside Fey, “Tina’s incredible. We’ve been so privileged and honoured to have her as part of the team. The stamp that she left on SNL and continues to leave on that institution is something that you can’t ignore.”

He also shared why he believes Saturday Night Live UK is vital right now, stating, “I think people just need to laugh right now, now more than ever. Things are a bit bleak, and when you turn on the telly, there are so many dramas, which is great, and it’s so good to see great actors do great dramatic roles and stuff, but also, I think it’s time now for comedy to get its lift. And for the unsung heroes of comedy, the up-and-coming comedians, to have a chance at reaching the masses.”
