Jack White slams Donald Trump following meeting with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky: “Vulgar, gold-leafed and gaudy”
Jack White has slammed US President Donald Trump for the regalia reeled out during his meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders, branding his makeover of the White House as “vulgar, gold-leafed and gaudy”.
The White Stripes frontman shared a post to his Instagram on August 19th, showing a photo of the Ukrainian and American leaders during their conversations on the pivotal steps being taken to end the country’s war with Russia.
He said, “Look at how disgusting Trump has transformed the historic White House. It’s now a vulgar, gold-leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler’s dressing room. Can’t wait for the UFC match on the front lawn too, he’s almost fully achieved the movie ‘Idiocracy’.”
White continued: “Look at his disgusting taste, would you even buy a used car from this conman, let alone give him the nuclear codes?” before adding, “What an embarrassment to American history. Also pictured in this photograph, a REAL leader of a nation in a black suit.”
The musician has been a longtime critic of the president, having dropped a lawsuit against Trump in November last year over a campaign video in which The White Stripes’ massive hit ‘Seven Nation Army’ was used.
At the time, White posted on social media: “Oh….Don’t even think about using my music you fascists. Law suit coming from my lawyers about this”. This was later dropped by he and Meg White without prejudice, although this means that they could have the capacity to file it again in the future.
Trump has made a number of aesthetic changes to the White House since his second inauguration in January this year, adorning the offices with many gold ornaments and pieces of furniture.
Most notably, as White referenced in his post, he also announced last month that he is planning for a UFC fight to take place at the presidential residence on the Independence Day celebrations next year, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the occasion.
