Jack White sells part of his back catalogue to Sony Music

Jack White has reportedly sold a portion of his back catalogue to Sony Music.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal is said to relate to White’s solo music as well as his work with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.

The agreement between White and Sony Music is believed to be only for a part of his material, but the report states that it is currently unknown precisely how much has been sold. Additionally, it’s also not been revealed how much the reported deal has cost Sony Music.

The publication also cites a source that claimed he “maintains control of his recordings” and “the deal doesn’t encompass any future recordings from White”.

After a year of heavy touring, White is reaching the end of his time on the road in support of his most recent album, No Name. He is set to play his final headline show at Bourbon and Beyond in Louisville on September 13th before slots at Riot Fest in Chicago and CBGBs Festival in New York later this month.

Notably, during the tour, White hit back at “entitled” fans who demanded his concerts last longer, stating, “I know that we’re living in a current era where people like to say ‘so and so played for 3 hours last night!’, and brag about it the next day hahaha, I’ll let our fans know now that my mind has no intention of ‘impressing’ y’all in that context.”

He also ensured a portion of the tickets were available at $20 for students to pay at the door at each show.

In a glowing review of his last record, Far Out wrote: “If it was simply Jack White sounding like good old Jack White then that would make for a timely rocket to blast a noteworthy wreckage in today’s pixelated musical landscape, but it’s Jack White in a signature vein that timelessly revitalises the medium of the blues with each stabbing chord—rendering it pretty damn close to the masterpiece the world needs right now.”

Neither White or Sony Music have commented on reports of their agreement.
