Jack Black surprises viewers at ‘A Minecraft Movie’ screening: “No chicken jockey”

Jack Black made a surprise appearance over the weekend at a screening of A Minecraft Movie to jokingly warn viewers to behave responsibly.

In footage which emerged on social media, Black can be seen parading around a cinema after initially telling those in attendance over a speakerphone in a fake warning message, “Presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please no throwing popped corn, and also no Lapis Lazuli, and also absolutely no chicken jockey.”

Black then appeared in the aisle with his aze, much to the delight of A Minecraft Movie fans, who began to scream at full volume and asked those in the theatre: “Are you ready to rock? Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy A Minecraft Movie.”

After sending the crowd into a state of delirium and running around the theatre with his axe, Black then departed the screening.

It comes after the movie birthed a viral TikTok trend. At one point in the film, Black’s character says the phrase, ‘Chicken jockey’ which has now become a meme as audiences film themselves going crazy and throwing popcorn when he delivers the line.

Many cinemas have issued strict instructions to those planning on attending A Minecraft Movie screening and warned them they’ll be evicted without a refund for throwing popcorn or not following traditional moviegoing etiquette.

Reel Cinemas issued the following statement: “To ensure everyone has the best possible cinema experience, we’re increasing our monitoring of screens during performances. Disruptive behaviour, including taking part in TikTok trends, before, during, or after a screening will not be tolerated. Anyone causing disruption will be asked to leave, and where necessary, the police will be called.”

However, director Jason Hess, told the New York Times that he finds the TikTok trend highly amusing, stating, “It’s way too funny. It’s been a total blast. I’m just laughing my brains out every time someone sends me a new video.”

Hess added: “No-one’s going to get hurt from popcorn. Look, when I go to the movies with my kids, it’s like a popcorn massacre that happens and they’re not throwing anything, but it ends up on the ground regardless.”
