Iris Apatow and Edvin Ryding join ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ cast

Actors Iris Apatow and Edvin Ryding have joined the all-star cast for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

The upcoming feature, scheduled for release in 2026, is based on Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games book of the same name. This movie is set 40 years after the prequel, The Ballads of Songbirds & Snakes, but 24 years before the initial Hunger Games series.

Apatow and Ryding will play Proserpina and Vitus. The pair are Capitol University students assigned to the prep team for the District 12 Tributes.

Apatow has portrayed Arya Hopkins in the Netflix series Love and Krystal Kris in the 2022 Netflix film The Bubble. At the news of the announcement, she wrote on social media, “absolute dream come true.”

Ryding is a Swedish actor best known for his role as Prince Wilhelm in the Netflix teen drama series Young Royals. He also starred in the 2024 movie A Part of You and the recent blockbuster hit 28 Years Later.

It was also announced that Jax Guerrero will play the character Tibby, and Sandra Forster will play Hersilia.

The current cast includes an impressive list of household names. Jesse Plemons has secured the role of a young Plutarch Heavensbee, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in the initial film series. Maya Hawke will play Wiress, a former Hunger Games champion turned District 12 mentor. McKenna Grace will portray Maysilee Donner, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. has been cast as Beetee.

The movie will give big breaks to Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak, who play the lead roles in the forthcoming movie as Haynith Abernathy and his girlfriend, Lenore Dove Baird. Recently, returning actor Kieran Culkin has landed the role of Caesar Flickerman.

Other notable names set to be part of the ensemble include Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Ralph Fiennes, and Elle Fanning. Francis Lawrence will return to the director’s chair. The Lionsgate film has now entered production.
