Idris Elba has been forced to deny the James Bond rumours more times than Shaggy’s denied his affairs in song. The latest instalment in the denial saga comes courtesy of an interview on Capital XTRA. It is a rumour that shares the same refusal to die as Bond himself.
Responding to the unending rumours Elba remarked: “I know the rumours about Bond have always chased me. Listen, my poor mum is like ‘One day you’re going to get it!’ I was like ‘Mum, I’m good, I’ve got Luther!’ I’m definitely doing that.”
Elba has also stoked the flames himself in the past. In 2018 he tweeted a picture with the caption “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba.” Whilst if he does get the role, he’ll have to work on getting that wording right, but the picture certainly caused quite a stir, nonetheless, seemingly nowhere more so than his own mothers’ household.
With cinemas reopening in the coming weeks and the long-delayed latest Daniel Craig Bond instalment, No Time To Die, looming on the horizon the Bond rumours are like to resurface once more.
Elsewhere in the interview, Elba discussed the return of iconic BBC police drama Luther returning in a cinematic cut. “The Luther film is definitely coming,” Elba said, “I’m very excited.”
“For the fans that have watched five seasons of Luther, I owe it to them to take it to the next level, and that’s where the film comes in,” he revealed.
Shooting on the movie began earlier this year, however, no release details or casting announcements have yet been made.
