Iconic ‘Star Trek’ actor William Shatner hospitalised

Beloved Star Trek actor William Shatner has been hospitalised after suffering from a medical emergency, according to reports.

The 94-year-old played Captain James T Kirk in the Star Trek franchise. He starred in the show for almost three decades, from 1966 to 1994, alongside the likes of Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock, and DeForest Kelley, who played Dr McCoy. In 2024, the then-90-year-old star was even invited on a space trip for a celebration of his grand legacy.

However, Shatner was recently hospitalised after experiencing an issue with his blood sugar levels while at home in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. They reported that Shatner called emergency medical service workers for help as a precaution. As a result, paramedics showed up to his home in an LAFD ambulance.

From there, he was transported to a local hospital to ensure he was in good health. Direct sources, however, have promised that he is doing “good” and “resting comfortably.” Despite his old age, Shatner still makes public appearances and is reportedly working on a project tied to his legendary Captain Kirk role.

Shatner has been aware of his old age for some time now, telling Variety in 2023: “He told Variety: “Whether I keel over as I’m speaking to you or ten years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a factor. I’ve got grandchildren. This documentary is a way of reaching out after I die.” He referred to the documentary, Call Me Bill, which provided an intimate portrait of Shatner’s personal journey across nine decades.

He added: “The sad thing is that the older a person gets, the wiser they become and then they die with all that knowledge. And it’s gone. It’s not like I’m going to take my ideas or my clothing with me.”

Shatner appeared at the Saturn Awards in February, where he received their lifetime achievement award.
