Hulu announce streaming date for ‘A Complete Unknown’
The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold, has had a release date revealed for streaming on Hulu.
The film, starring Timothée Chalamet as the legendary singer-songwriter, will be available to watch starting on March 27th.
Initially released in cinemas back in December, A Complete Unknown was an instant box office success, grossing $132 million worldwide.
Its performances from Chalamet in the lead role, alongside Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, and Elle Fanning, meant the film scooped eight nominations at the 2025 Oscars, including for ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Actor’.
Although Dylan is celebrated as a prolific musician and wordsmith, A Complete Unknown, directed by Mangold, tells his story through the very finite prism of when he first arrived in New York City in the early part of the 1960s.
Striking up relationships with Joan Baez (Barbaro) and Sylvie Russo (Fanning) in the process, the film tracks the young Dylan as he makes his first footsteps into music, being transformed into a folk behemoth with the support of his hero Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy) through the release of his first two albums.
In playing such a seismic part and often impenetrable persona, Chalamet’s focus on the role of Dylan was steadfast. He previously told Rolling Stone: “I had three months of my life to play Bob Dylan, after five years of preparing to play him. So while I was in it, that was my eternal focus.”
In its review of the film, Far Out said: “Any biopic hinges on the character at the heart of the story, and in the case of A Complete Unknown raises an interesting point about the stories that we deem worthy to share. Despite being undeniably talented, Dylan is a notoriously reserved character and, judging by this production, sadly had a personality about as dry as sandpaper.”
