Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer to star in new twist on Robin Hood

For centuries, people have been telling stories about Robin Hood, whose life has been immortalised in folklore since the 15th century. A new interpretation of his story is currently in pre-production, with Hugh Jackman set to star as the iconic outlaw.

The Death of Robin Hood will be directed by Michael Sarnoski, known for helming 2021’s Pig, starring Nicholas Cage. Alongside Jackman, Jodie Comer will appear as a woman who takes Robin Hood in after being severely injured.

Production will be handled by Ryder Picture Company alongside Lyrical Media’s Alexander Black, with the latter company financing the picture. According to producers Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett, via Deadline, “This is not the story of Robin Hood we’ve all come to know. Instead, Michael has crafted something far more grounded and visceral.”

They also added, “The world is going to love seeing Hugh and Jodie together in this epic.” Filming isn’t slated to begin until February 2025, meaning it won’t be released for some time after, and a release date has yet to be confirmed.

The project might seem far away, but Jackman and Comer have a lot to keep them preoccupied in the meantime. Jackman will be appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine, starring opposite Ryan Reynolds in the Marvel crossover, with a release date scheduled for July 26th, 2024.

Comer has enjoyed a meteoric rise to success in the past few years, going from being a supporting character in the teen drama My Mad Fat Diary to the acclaimed star of Killing Eve. She recently appeared on Broadway in the one-woman play Prima Facie and starred alongside Austin Butler and Tom Hardy in The Bikeriders, which is scheduled for widespread theatrical release in June.

Robin Hood has appeared on screens for years, with his first appearance coming in 1908’s Robin Hood and His Merry Men. Some more notable productions include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner, the Disney animated Robin Hood, and Mel Brooks’ satirical comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

However, Sarnoski’s interpretation of Robin Hood, weary from years of crime, will be considerably darker. Little is known about the rest of the cast or the ins and outs of the plot, but The Death of Robin Hood sounds like a highly promising upcoming release nonetheless.
