There’s currently a veritable smorgasbord of two-piece guitar bands emerging to tantalise our metaphoric taste buds, with the likes of Drenge, Royal Blood, Slaves and Glaswegian female duo Honeyblood all building considerable momentum.
Honeyblood – currently touring the UK with Courtney Barnett – represent more than just a tasty morsel on offer from said generous buffet.
Their latest 7” single ‘Killer Bangs’ is released through Fatcat Records on 12 May as a limited edition release of 300 copies pressed onto red vinyl.
It’s an instantly infectious pop-punk rollercoaster with crunching guitar licks, rolling drums, ear-worm burrowing hooks and a perfectly executed but deceptive tempo change that builds into a rousing finale.
I generally bore quickly of instantly likeable tunes such as this, but I have a feeling that Killer Bangs will enjoy a longer than average residence on my turntable.
If Honeyblood’s recent offerings are anything to go by, their debut album, due out on 14 July is looking like a mouth-watering prospect.
