Influential German label Grönland have announced the release of ‘Cinema’, a retrospective boxset of music by legendary musician Holger Czukay most commonly known as being a founding member of krautrock pioneers Can.
Following his death last year, ‘Cinema’ explores his extensive back catalogue of music he made as a solo artist and also features several high profile collaborations with artists as iconic and diverse as Brian Eno, Jah Wobble and Karlheinz Stockhausen alongside previously unreleased music.
The box set is being released to coincide with what would have been Holger’s 80th birthday (24th March) and also coincides with CAN’s 50th anniversary since their inception. The boxset comes in both vinyl and CD format with five discs guiding you chronologically through Holger’s stellar recording career spanning over five decades.
The boxset also comes replete with a photo booklet containing previously unseen photographs and a touching biography of Holger Czukay penned by MOJO author Ian Harrison. It also includes a DVD of ‘Krieg der Töne’ (‘War of the Sounds’); a musical slapstick comedy and poetic film about discovering your own style and the magic of sounds that starred HolgerCzukay as himself in an alternate reality.
