Hockeysmith release new track ‘But Blood’
Hockeysmith are Annie & Georgie Hockeysmith, two sisters who live in a caravan on a farm in Falmouth, Cornwall, where they write and record their music.
They released their debut single, the double a-side of ‘Now I Want To’ / ‘Let’s Bang’, towards the end of last year on their own Backabelly label.
It won them attention for its angular sonics, unorthodox song structures and sense of intuitive experimentation.
‘But Blood’ is also the title of their forthcoming EP, which will be released next week on Double Denim Records.
The EP combines a beguiling sing-song melody with sub-bass rumblings and brooding pianos, building into a wall of sound of jagged guitar feedback duelling with Roland 303 acid riffs.
Their latest offering is the perfect introduction for anyone who is unfamiliar with Hockeysmith’s sound, and it definitely has the potential to make a fan out of those who weren’t impressed the first time around.
If ‘But Blood’ is a trustworthy indicator, it’s safe to say that the eponymous EP is also going to be a fine project to sink one’s teeth into.
