Helsinki Ft. Albert Hammond Jr. – The Batteries Weren’t Dead

Drew McConell of Babyshamble fame has long been a producer of fantastic hits and filled in for some of the greatest bass pieces known to modern guitar music.

So when his new band Helsinki got together with Albert Hammond Jr there was bound to be an explosion of greatness. But ‘The Batteries Weren’t Dead’ is not quite what we were expecting. Far from the punk/disco splicing of Babyshambles and Strokes we were salivating at, we instead get an equally filling slice of melodic amuse bouche to the forthcoming LP from Helsinki out March 2nd

With a 100 Club date on the same date tickets here, there is high hopes for Helsinki and their infectious brand of deeply musical and masterful sound.

Albert Hammond Jr had this to say about his collaboration on The Batteries Weren’t Dead:

“It was the night after some big show and I had no idea where I was let alone who I was, so I went to meet Drew. Turns out he was in this studio…of course we ended up recording. It was a real whirlwind of emotions…I remember thinking how wonderfully melodic and talented Drew was. It took me ages to play the triplets at the end of the song that he wanted- I was super nervous, but I loved every minute of it.”

It’s even available as a free download.
