Helen Mirren wants to do a DNA test with ‘1923’ co-star Harrison Ford
English actor Helen Mirren has jokingly claimed she wants a DNA test to see whether she’s related to her 1923 co-star Harrison Ford.
Ford and Mirren have a storied history that began when they first worked together on The Mosquito Coast in 1986. The shoot proved to be the start of a long-lasting connection between the pair, which continues today as they appear alongside each other in the Yellowstone prequel 1923, which is currently in its second season.
“Harrison and I have a weird thing,” she said in a new interview with People, before noting how it’s like being reunited with a “best friend in college that you haven’t seen for like 30 years, but (once) you’re back, (it’s) exactly (the same), only even better, actually. Even better.”
“I don’t know if you feel the same, Harrison, but I certainly feel like that, that there is this weird, connected(ness). “Maybe we should do a DNA (test). Maybe we are brother and sister in the end or something like that.”
Ford was less keen on the DNA test, stating, “Well, that makes it even more bizarre.” He then also noted of his co-star, “Maybe cousins. That would be better.”
While Ford clearly doesn’t believe they are related, he did reveal that Mirren was the main reason why he agreed to participate in 1923. “The reality is that we met 40 or 50 years ago when we were doing Mosquito Coast. And so we meet now 40 years later. I’ve been told that she’s already signed up. She’s been told I’m already signed up,” he shared.
Ford then explained how there are a “million different kinds of actors” which means there’s no guarantee of chemistry “but when there’s a fit, you feel it”. He said Mirren’s role in 1923 is “a perfect bit of casting”.
The next episode of 1923, ‘Only Gunshots to Guide Us,’ will air on March 23rd. The season is currently scheduled to wrap on April 13th. No plans for a third series have been announced.
