Harry Styles releases surprise video after music hiatus
Harry Styles has surprise-released a music video of a new ballad, ‘Forever, Forever’, after a two-year musical hiatus.
In July 2023, the former One Direction star closed out his lengthy Love on Tour run in Italy. Since then, the star has operated largely outside of the limelight.
However, on December 27th, Styles posted a video close to the nine-minute mark, which shares footage from his final show, which took place in Italy. The clip is titled ‘Forever, Forever’.
The video opens with fans who are getting ready for the show, discussing their adoration for the singer. One of them admits, in Italian, that there is “Some sadness [because] then he will disappear. We won’t see him dancing on stages anymore.”
Beyond the sun-soaked images, in which some fans go on to discuss his outfit choices, the video then cuts to the performance itself, which sees the singer-songwriter play a new ballad for the crowd.
In Italian, Styles shares, “I wrote this for you,” before sitting at the piano and playing the new track, a sweeping, emotional instrumental. Throughout his rendition, the video is interpersed with flashes of the crowd, who watch silently, enraptured by the display.
This video captures the last song he performed for the crowd on his Love on Tour run. However, Styles would go on to perform again in July 2024, when he joined Stevie Nicks to perform ‘Landslide’ in tribute to the late Christine McVie. He also performed ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’.
Outside of music, as of late he has completed the Berlin marathon, and he will be running the Tokyo marathon in March.
It is not yet clear whether this is a heartfelt goodbye or a graceful re-entry into the music industry. It ends with a hopeful tone, with the words “We Belong Together.” Watch the full clip below.
