Hard Life announce new album ‘Onions’
Hard Life, formerly known as Easy Life, have unveiled details of their third album, Onions.
The new record is set for release on July 18th and was previewed earlier this week with their comeback single, ‘Othello’. In 2023, the group were forced to change their name following a legal challenge from EasyGroup, who run airline EasyJet, and also undertook a hiatus immediately after they reluctantly laid Easy Life to rest.
Last summer, Hard Life returned with ‘Tears‘, which addressed their legal dispute and the challenges that followed the unwanted incident.
Onion came to fruition once Murray Matravers took himself to Japan to escape the situation, according to press materials, which state, “The album emerged after—of all things—a long haul flight: disillusioned with his work and having effectively quit music, Murray booked a spontaneous trip to Japan, wishing to fully immerse himself in the fashion, food, and local culture that had fascinated him since touring four years ago.”
It continues: “He was also, admittedly, running away from an unbroken streak of breakups (romantically, within the hard life band, and from the life once lived). Seeking solace in Tokyo, Murray met another wandering stranger, Taka, and started making music again spontaneously in Shirokane’s local studio, named Onion.“
Onion is a collection of songs that promises to exhibit how Matravers was “hardened by experience, but also compassionate, confident, and care-free.”
Matravers has since regrouped with the rest of the Hard Life band since returning to Leicester from Japan in December. After missing out on the festival circuit last year due to their legal issues, they will perform at Y Not, Live at Leeds, Truck Festival, Boardmasters and Benicassim this summer.
