Haley Joel Osment apologises for using antisemitic language at police officer following arrest: “Absolutely horrified”
Actor Haley Joel Osment has apologised for abusing a police officer and using an antisemitic slur after being arrested for public intoxication earlier this month.
Osment was arrested in Mammoth Lakes, California, at 2:00pm on April 8th after police officers were alerted to his alleged “unruly conduct”. He was later arrested for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, believed to be cocaine, but has not yet been charged.
Now, new bodycam footage has been released of the incident. He can be seen in the video saying, “I’ve been kidnapped by a fucking Nazi.” The Sixth Sense star also said he was “being attacked” and alleged officers of “torturing” him.
At another point in the video, Osment warns an officer, “You’re fucking with my life”. The actor then told them, “You’ll wish you treated me nicer,” before later using an antisemitic slur, adding, “I was decent to you and you, and you are a fucking kike”.
Osment has now apologised for his actions, telling The New York Post, “I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner.”
The actor, who lost his home in the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year, continued, “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place. But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage – I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me.”
Osment concluded his apology by saying, “I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”
The case remains under investigation, and it remains unclear whether Osment will be charged by local authorities.
