Grimes marks her return with new song 'Violence'

Claire Elise Boucher, known professionally as Grimes, has finally marked her return with her newest single ‘Violence’.

The track, which comes in collaboration with producer i_o, arrives as the first exclusive material from Grimes since the release of 2015’s Art Angels. The song arrived as the first taster from her forthcoming album, Miss_Anthropocene, a project Grimes previously described as “a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate change.”

She added: “A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world. She’s composed of Ivory and Oil.

“Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology,” she continued. “The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence.”

In typical Grimes fashion, the song has arrived with brilliantly cinematic visuals as the epic accompanying video which has been directed by Grimes herself.

Grimes will be hoping her new material has a stronger legacy than her previous work, the musician herself previously offering a surprising take on Art Angels: “The last album was a piece of crap,” she said. “I feel like people really misread it and it feels like a stain on my life.”

“I just wish I could make music in a vacuum,” she continued. “It’s good to make people mad actually, I retract my statement. If you can make people mad without actually hurting anyone, that’s probably a good thing.”
