Greta Thunberg wears Fontaines DC’s Palestine aid shirt during trip to Gaza
Greta Thunberg was seen wearing a football shirt designed by Fontaines DC in support of Palestine as she set sail on a ship towards Gaza holding humanitarian aid.
The climate activist set sail from Catania, Southern Italy, on June 1st, onboard the Madleen boat with the campaign group Freedom Flotilla.
Alongside Thunberg are 11 other activists who are attempting to reach Gaza to give aid to people suffering in the war with Israel, in turn raising awareness for the “international crisis”, The Guardian reported.
In a video shared on social media, Thunberg is seen wearing the Irish rock band’s shirt as she says: “[We] will attempt to again sail towards Gaza and try to break the siege and open up a humanitarian corridor by delivering aid like food and medical supplies.”
She added: “The last time we attempted this, about a month ago, the boat, Conscience, that we were about to board got bombed twice, and all evidence suggests that it was Israel who did it. So now we are here in Catania, outside of Sicily, to try and continue our mission to try again.”
The activist concluded the clip by imploring the public to “Keep your eyes on deck. Continue flooding the streets, organise boycotts and do everything in your power to stand for Palestine.”
The shirt she was seen wearing was designed and launched by Fontaines DC late last year in collaboration with Bohemians FC, a football team based in Dublin. Emblazoned with the Palestinian flag alongside the words “Saoirse don Phalaistín”, which is Irish for ‘Free Palestine’, sales from the shirt went directly to the charity Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP).
