Green Day release new single ‘Dilemma’

One month ahead of the release of the new Green Day album, Saviors, the pop-punk trio have returned with new single ‘Dilemma’.

The upcoming album marks their first full-length project since 2020’s Father of All Motherfuckers. For the album, they have also teamed up with their go-to mixer, Chris Lord Alge, famous for working his magic on albums like Dookie and American Idiot. This new release precedes the following singles ‘The American Dream is Killing Me’ and ‘Look Ma, No Brains’.

While discussing ‘Dilemma’, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong talked about his struggles with addiction and mental health, saying, “‘Dilemma’ was one of those songs that was kind of easy to write because it was so personal to me. We’ve seen so many of our peers struggle with addiction and mental illness. This song is all about the pain that comes from those experiences.”

This is not the first time that Armstrong has been open about his personal emotions on record, either. On their major label debut, Armstrong penned ‘Basket Case’ as a response to the various struggles that he had with panic attacks over the years. This theme continued throughout his career, with the singer writing about his various excesses on ‘Hitchin’ A Ride’ on Nimrod before being candid about the death of his father on ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’.

While the band haven’t shied away from heavy subject matter, Armstrong did confirm that most of the album will not feature any political subject matter. When looking at the state of the world at the moment, Armstrong would call the topic “low hanging fruit” in the modern age.

Alongside the release of their new album, the band have also been celebrating various anniversaries with a re-release of their album Dookie, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2024. While American Idiot is also set to turn 20, there hasn’t been any mention of plans to celebrate.

Saviours is set to be released on January 19th, 2024. Listen to ‘Dilemma’ below.
