Peter Farrelly, the director of Green Book, has apologised after his past actions surfaced as the film prepares for Oscars nominations.
Farrelly, 62, has been forced to address his past after it emerged that the director once flashed his penis in the direction of actress Cameron Diaz while on the set of 1998 film There’s Something About Mary.
The details have been unearthed by The Cut who also claim that both Farrelly—and his directing partner and brother Bobby—would sometimes trick cast members into touching their genitals.
Now, as Green Book prepares to celebrate its success, Farrelly has issued an apology for his past on set actions: “True. I was an idiot,” Peter Farrelly said in a statement to The Cut.
He added: “I did this decades ago and I thought I was being funny and the truth is I’m embarrassed and it makes me cringe now. I’m deeply sorry.”
