Greek beach named 'best beach in the world'

Zakynthos Island’s beach Navagio has been named number one beach in the world by travel site Flight Network. The company carried out extensive research and ranked the world’s top 50 beaches for 2018. According to 1200 travel journalists, bloggers, editors and agencies, this Greek island has stolen this year’s number one spot.

The site judged the beaches on a range of factors from untouched beauty to remoteness, also taking into account the quality of the sand and water. Navagio gained a 10 out of 10 for all the factors judged.

Navagio, famed for its shipwreck, is a very popular tourist spot with thousands flocking from around the world to visit its crystal clear waters. The island was followed closely by Whitehaven beach in second place and next was Philippines island El Nido in third.

Journalist Erin Miller described it as “something out of a dream,” before adding that “the crystal clear waters lap against this small beach with the bones of an old ship rusting away in the sand. It’s quite literally a once-in-a-lifetime kind of beach.”

The site Flight Network stated: “The World’s Best Beaches for 2018 that highlights the best beaches on almost all continents, by conferring with over 1200 journalists, editors, bloggers, and agencies, who possess endless travel wisdom.
