Grammys 2025: Beyoncé wins ‘Album of the Year’ for ‘Cowboy Carter’
Emerging as one of the big winners at this year’s edition of the Grammys, Beyoncé has clinched the coveted ‘Album of the Year’ prize for Cowboy Carter.
Although many expected some of the other big-name contenders like Billie Eilish to win, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter came out on top right after she became the first Black woman to win the ‘Best Country Album’ prize at the Grammys.
Cowboy Carter is definitely an interesting addition to Beyoncé’s discography, blending multiple genres while using the tropes of country music to highlight overlooked contributions made by Black pioneers throughout history.
In her acceptance speech for ‘Best Country Album’, Beyoncé expressed surprise at receiving the accolade while also noting how genre has become a restrictive lens through which to view art: “I was not expecting this…
“I want to thank God that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years, oh, my God! I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this, this album we worked so hard on…”
Adding, “I think sometimes genre is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists, and just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about. And to stay persistent.”
With major prizes including ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Best Country Album’ under her belt, Beyoncé has further cemented her status as one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of her generation, strengthening her position in the second half of her illustrious career.
