Gorillaz have announced the next instalment of their ‘Song Machine’ series, a project whereby they invite some heavyweight artists into their Kong Studios to record a new song with the animated band. Next up is The Cure frontman Robert Smith.
It’s official, the Gorillaz are going goth. Robert Smith, the perennially mopey man from Crawley has been confirmed as the nest star to feature in the 2D band’s ongoing series. Though no release date has been share, the mere thought of Smith working with the cartoon group brings a smile to our face. Though likely not his.
Gorillaz took to Twitter to share the news of Robert Smith’s inclusion in their upcoming Song Machine series instalment. “Coming up on Song Machine… It’s Robert Smith,” read the caption alongside a spaceship emoji and instruction to “follow your nearest Song Machine NOW!”
Does the promo picture that has arrived with the news hint at what the new track might be like? If so, expect something out of this world as it places Smith in an ominous position overlooking the cartoon band as they explore a rocky planet in the view of the earth.
Previous Song Machine episodes have welcomed Octavian, Tony Allen and ScHoolboy Q. Check out the tweet, below:
