Malian star Fatoumata Diawara joins Gorillaz for new song ‘Désolé’

The latest track from a new Gorillaz project, the Song Machine series, sees the animated band work with the Malian star Fatoumata Diawara for new song ‘Désolé’.

The second song taken from the new project sees the Malian singer Diawara join Damon Albarn and the band in the Kong Studios for the next episode of the show in the animated series.

The new episode premiered this week and sees the cartoon group uploading their collaborated tracks from their Kong Studios “as and when they happen.” Though the animation sees the band in a slightly more desirable location.

The animation sees the group teleport via a portal to the beautiful setting of Italy’s Lake Como where they settled down to perform ‘Désolé’ with Diawara. It follows their previous release with slowthai and Slaves.

The group’s drummer Russel said of the collaboration: “Making ‘Désolé’ with Fatou was a real moment for me, you know. She’s an African Queen. This lady made the song what it is, beautiful, like life.

“What can I say about ‘Désolé’? They say sorry is the hardest word, but that’s not true… Try saying antidisestablishmentarianism with a mouth full of gluten free cronuts on a speed boat without licking your lips.”
