Building on their return having released four new songs from their upcoming album Humanz, Gorillaz marked their return by breaking records with their new video.
The video, which accompanies new single ‘Saturnz Barz’ has broken YouTube’s record for the biggest debut of a VR video.
Featuring 28-year-old Popcaan, one of Jamaica’s most successful dancehall artists, the video for ‘Saturnz Barz’ was made available in 360-degree virtual reality to coincide with their iconic animations.
As if their return wasn’t going to be a memorable one, the new video has now set a record for the highest debut of a VR video in YouTube history having been viewed more than three million times within its first 48 hours beating previous holder Russian band УСПЕШНАЯ ГРУППА, Billboard reports.
