Golden Globes 2026: Nikki Glaser takes aim at the political and media elite in opening monologue
Marking her second year in a row as host, stand-up comedian and actor Nikki Glaser took to the stage at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton on Sunday evening for the customary Golden Globes opening monologue.
“Welcome to the 83rd Golden Globes,” Glaser stated to the star-studded room of Hollywood’s A-list. “Without a doubt, the most important thing that is happening in the world right now.”
Next, Glaser aimed her material towards the recent top-down redactions of the files related to Jeffrey Epstein, before targeting the ceremony’s network broadcaster, CBS, for their news editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss’ part in pulling a 60 Minutes segment reporting on the treatment of Venezuelan migrants deported to El Salvador.
“The Golden Globe for best editing goes to the Justice Department,” quipped Glaser. “And the award for most editing goes to CBS News… America’s newest place to see BS news.”
Further roasting was meted out across some of the attendees, including Sean Penn, George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Lawrence.
Glaser made jibes at Clooney’s Nespresso ambassadorship, requesting he troubleshoot issues with her coffee maker, made fun of Hart’s height, and took a swipe at the 51-year-old DiCaprio’s reputation for dating much younger women.
“You’ve won three Golden Globes, an Oscar, and the most impressive thing is that you were able to accomplish all of that before your girlfriend turned 30,” Glaser joked, before offering a tongue-in-cheek apology.
“I’m sorry I made that joke, it’s cheap,” Glaser said. “You know what – I tried not to, but like, we don’t know anything else about you, man. There’s nothing else, like, open up. I’m serious.”
Glaser later mocked Marty Supreme actor Timothée Chalamet as the first actor in history to gain muscle for a film about ping-pong, before wrapping up her bit, imploring directors Guillermo del Toro, James Cameron and Yorgos Lanthimos to keep making “weird” and “bizarre” pictures.
