Golden Globes 2026: ‘One Battle After Another’ wins ‘Best Picture – Comedy or Musical’

At the 83rd annual Golden Globes, it was the thrill-seeking, nail-biting Paul Thomas Anderson extravaganza, One Battle After Another, that took home the award for ‘Best Picture – Comedy or Musical’.

Loosely based on the novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob, a former revolutionary who was part of the far-left group French 75.

In the current day, he abuses substances and alcohol while living off the grid before being thrust back into action to save his daughter, Willa (played by Chase Infiniti).

The picture was set up for a great night at the ceremony, leading the pack in nominations with a massive nine nods.

The other contenders in the ‘Best Picture – Comedy or Musical’ category included: Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia; Josh Safdie’s Timothee Chalamet-fronted epic Marty Supreme; Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague; Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice; and Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon.

In a four-and-a-half-star review of One Battle After AnotherFar Out wrote: “Revitalising old stars and launching new ones, it does it all there too, as every single element of this movie, every person and every detail, feels masterful.”

Adding, “It’s a Hollywood romp that has been through the rigours of arthouse attention to detail and intention to stir.”

In his victory speech following his ‘Best Director’ win, Paul Thomas Anderson beamed with pride, declaring: “You guys are being so generous with this affection for me and this film, and I’ll take it – I’ll take it with the love that it’s given and the appreciation… I love doing what I do. So this is just fun.”

Thanking Mike De Luca, he concluded: “[De Luca] said he had a dream of running a studio one day, and he was going to let directors do whatever the hell they wanted. So that’s how you get a Sinners. That’s how you get a Weapons. That’s how you get a One Battle After Another. So I really want to say thank you.”
